De overgang van ronde naar rechthoekige koplampen is wat hier het meeste bepaalt: vroege 240/260 tot 1980 hebben ronde of dubbele ronde inzetstukken, terwijl de facelift van modeljaar 1981 rechthoekige lampen en een bredere front introduceerde. Koop je het verkeerde inzetstuk, dan past het noch bij de grille-opening noch bij de bevestiging. Een gescheurde reflector, een beslagen glasinzetstuk en gecorrodeerde houders zijn klassieke slijtagepunten op een auto die vier decennia heeft gereden, en dubbele rechthoekige systemen stellen extra eisen aan de juiste plaatsing.
