Zwak of vergeeld dimlicht op een vroege PV komt vaak evenzeer door een gecorrodeerde reflector en slechte massa als door de lamp zelf. Op auto's met het originele 6-voltsysteem - dat werd gebruikt vanaf de productiestart in 1947 tot de overgang naar 12 volt in 1961 - is de spanningsmarge klein, dus loszittende doorvoeren en roestige lamphouders zijn meteen merkbaar in het lichtbeeld.
